Format HTML, CSS, and JavaScript without running it
Choose a parser, handle incomplete source, and review formatted code without confusing formatting with testing.
Choose the parser for your source
Use HTML Formatter for markup, CSS Formatter for stylesheets, and JavaScript Formatter for JavaScript. These tools use Prettier's browser parsers. Paste source code rather than a screenshot or Markdown fence, then select Run tool.
Use JSON Formatter for strict JSON; it has different syntax rules from a JavaScript object. An error can indicate an incomplete snippet or missing delimiter. Correct the source intentionally instead of adding arbitrary braces.
Review the formatting changes
The formatters use two-space indentation. JavaScript also requests semicolons. Quote style, wrapping, and attribute layout can change, so the result is more than a copy with newlines added.
HTML whitespace can affect inline layout and text. CSS formatting does not prove that selectors match or properties are supported. Compare the source and preview the result inside the actual project.
Run checks after formatting
The JavaScript tool parses without executing the program. It does not prove that the program is safe, correct, or compatible with a target browser.
Use the project's linter, type checker, tests, and browser preview afterward. Well-formatted code can still contain unsafe DOM operations, inaccessible markup, broken links, and logic errors. Remove secrets from examples before sharing them.
