Keep links and citations when cleaning AI notes
Distinguish retaining a URL from verifying that the source exists and supports the sentence next to it.
A retained destination is only the first check
Removing Markdown can accidentally leave an attractive source label without an address. A useful plain-text note needs the destination too. The cleaner converts simple inline HTTP and HTTPS links into label (destination), which makes the address inspectable outside a rich-text editor.
That transformation does not visit the source. A real-looking citation can still point to an unrelated page, an outdated article, or no useful evidence. Open the source yourself in a separate browsing workflow and compare the actual passage with the claim.
Review complex citation syntax manually
Reference-style links, nested parentheses, tables, footnotes, and unusual Markdown extensions need extra care. Common styling removal is not a complete bibliography converter. Keep author, title, publication date, and any page reference that your destination requires.

Build a useful source note
For each important claim, keep the source URL next to a short explanation of what you personally checked. Preserve exact quoted text as a quotation and record a page or section when appropriate. Do not let formatting cleanup erase the distinction between quotation and paraphrase.
Extract URLs can produce candidate links from notes, but it does not recover a citation's missing context. Review terminal punctuation and complex addresses before sharing a source list. A compact, verified set of sources is more useful than a long unreviewed list.
