How to use Plain Text Formatter

  1. Paste the plaintext message into the input area.
  2. Set the maximum characters per line and the number of leading spaces to add.
  3. Choose whether blank paragraph breaks should remain and whether long unbroken words may split.
  4. Review the live result, then copy or download it.

What this tool changes

The formatter joins wrapped source lines into paragraphs, trims line-edge whitespace, wraps words to the selected width, and applies the same leading-space indentation to every nonblank output line. The width includes those leading spaces.

Example input

Use this formatter for email newsletters, promotions, release notes, or any plain-text message that needs readable line lengths.

Paragraph breaks can stay in place while wrapped lines are cleaned up.

Privacy by design

The workbench runs in your current browser tab. Input and output are not intentionally sent to CleanThisText servers for processing.

Common uses

  • Format plaintext email newsletters and promotional messages for consistent reading widths.
  • Prepare release notes, changelogs, or support replies for plain-text clients.
  • Rewrap copied drafts while retaining intentional paragraph spacing.

Limitations

Whitespace between words is normalized while wrapping. With long-word breaking off, a URL, identifier, or other unbroken word can exceed the selected width; turn it on only when splitting such text is acceptable.

Questions about Plain Text Formatter

Does Plain Text Formatter upload my text?

No transformation endpoint is used. The formatter processes the current input in browser memory.

Does indentation count toward the maximum width?

Yes. A 72-character line with four leading spaces has room for 68 characters of text.

What happens to tabs and multiple spaces?

The formatter treats whitespace between words as a word boundary, uses spaces for new indentation, and preserves blank paragraph lines when that option is on.
